China Hangzhou International Conference on Educational Innovations

In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of APEID (the Asia-Pacific Program of Educational Innovation for
    Development) and with the approval from UNESCO Bangkok and Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, 2003
    the 9th UNESCO-APEID International Conference on Education was convened in Shanghai. In view of the
    achievements Xiacheng had made in educational innovation, part of the conference was held in Xiacheng District,
    Hangzhou. Since then, Xiacheng District has been on the road to integration with multicultural world.
     Xiacheng District has so far hosted China Hangzhou International Conference on Educational Innovations for
    four consecutive years.
     ----The Second China Hangzhou International Conference on Educational Innovations was convened in October 2004.
    Taking “innovation, communication and development” as the theme, the conference successively arranged two theme
    seminars: “International Seminar on Private Education: Policy Issues and Innovative Practices” and “UNESCO
    International Meeting on Innovation and Excellence in TVET Teacher/Trainer Education”; as well as four other meetings:
    “National Seminar on Ceramic Art Teaching in Elementary Education”, “Seminar on Zhu Xuedan’s Educational Ideas”,
    “Symposium on Constructing Modern Schools by Developing Intelligence for Success” and “Advanced Seminar on
    University’s Role in Elementary Education Reform”.
     ----In October 2005, the Third China Hangzhou International Conference on Educational Innovations set off another
    new mass fervor. Taking “quality education for all through innovations” as the theme, the conference centered on
    “quality” and “for all”, consisting of five theme meetings on “Current Situation and Prospects for International
    Community Education”, “Elementary Education for Migrant Population’s Children”, “Development and Utilization of
    Preschool Education Resources for Children Aged 0-3”, “Development of Famous Education Groups and Expansion of
    Quality Educational Resources” and “Teachers’ Professional Development and Reform in Elementary Education
    Curriculum”.
     ----In 2006, the Fourth China Hangzhou International Conference on Educational Innovations centered on the theme
     “promoting social harmony with educational culture”, during which six meetings were convened: “Asia-Pacific
    Consultation on Developing Policy of Education for International Understanding in Northeast Asia”, “International Forum
    on Lifelong Learning and Community Education”, “Curriculum Reform and School Innovations”, “2006 Zhejiang
    Innovative Education Development Forum”, “Forum on Development of Preschool Education for Children aged 0-6” and
    “‘Educational Culture Leading School Development’----One Hundred Principal Forum”.
     ----In 2007, the Fourth China Hangzhou International Conference on Educational Innovations centered on the theme
    “To promote the harmonious development of education with educational diversification”, during which six meetings
    were convened: “International Conference on Curriculum Reform and Social Progress”,“International Symposium on
    Inclusive Education and Harmonious Campus”,“Wrap-up Meeting for National and Provincial Level EFA Monitoring and
    Evaluation in China”,“Symposium on Elementary Education Quality Monitoring and Evaluation”,“Forum on Educational
    Brand Construction and Sustainable Development of Education”,“Pluralistic Study and Happy Growth: Symposium on
     Preschool Education Development ”.
     China Hangzhou International Conference on Educational Innovations in 2003-2007 attracted more than 300 renowned
    experts and scholars from over 40 countries and regions, more than 50 officials from UNESCO and nearly 4,000
    international and Chinese delegates. The media have published reports totaling over 250,000 words. In 2003, two schools
    were named “UNESCO Associated School”; in 2004, the only one regional APEID Associated Center in China was
    established in Xiacheng District; in 2005, officials and distinguished experts from home and abroad met at the
    conference, highly praising the achievements Xiacheng District had made in educational reform; in 2006, China
    Hangzhou International Conference on Education Innovations became a formal event of the West Lake Expo; in 2007,
    China Hangzhou International Conference on Educational Innovations became a permanent meeting for the cooperation
    between UNESCO and economically developed regions, UNESCO Asia and Pacific Regional Community Learning
    Resource Center was established in Xiacheng District,UNESCO EFA Quality Monitoring Xiacheng Center was officially
    founded…
    
     In 2008, the sixth China Hangzhou International Conference on Educational Innovations is to grandly open beside the
    beautiful West Lake. Centering on the theme “Ecological Civilization, Scientific Development---- To Promote the
    Sustainable Development of Education with the Theory of Educational Ecology”, the conference is to include eight
    meetings: “Sputh-East Asia ESD Coordination and Capacity Building Workshop”, “International Symposium on
    Community Learning Center Construction”, “Education Bureau Directors Forum ---- Responsibility and Mission of
    Education Bureau Directors Guided by Scientific Outlook on Development”, “Symposium on Group School Running”,
    “Ecological Classroom Teaching Demonstration Activities, The 1st Classroom Festival of Xiacheng District”, “The
    Seventh Asia Pacific Harmonica Festival 2008 in Hangzhou, Exhibition of Education Achievements of Daomaoxiang
    Primary School”, “Romantic Learning: Forum on Changes and Innovations of Pupil Learning, the 100th Anniversary of
    Xinhua Primary School”, “Symposium on Effectiveness of Kindergarten Mass Teaching” .
    
     China Hangzhou International Conference on Educational Innovations learns from cultures at home and abroad,
    claims top excellence through innovations, and seeks harmony with foresight. It has depicted Xiacheng’s
    conscientious efforts to develop education, witnessed Xiacheng’s strong determination to develop education,
    and fortified Xiacheng’s conviction to develop education; therefore, it will surely guide the education
